An ecosystem lives and thrives through its people. Flourishing within it is not only about what you can take from it, but also about what you can provide.
That’s why successful founders find themselves wanting to give back to the ecosystem that shaped them: they want to share the insight and skills gained throughout their startup journey with you! This panel invites the participants to learn from the highs and lows of entrepreneurs who have gone from inexperienced to thriving.

Carlo Badini, John Jost, Matthias Heller, Bryan Giger, Raphael Schaad & Olivia Chang

Discover the new funding model for early stage  startups — Y Combinator (YC) — by listening to the stories of Swiss startup founders who have taken part in it. It’s never too early to find out that YC is right for you!

Here’s some main facts about the program:
Twice a year, YC invests  $500,000  per company in a large number of  startups and works intensively with them for a period of three months. The goal? To get these startups into the best possible shape and turboboost their investor pitch.
On the YC Demo Day, startups present themselves to a carefully selected, invite-only audience.
From the program sprung the YC alumni network, whose mission it is to help founders just like you!

At Maximon and the ventures we build, we focus primarily on this 12-year gap. We help people to slow down aging and in some cases even achieve a rejuvenation at the cellular and molecular level. In conversation with ski star Ramon Zenhäusern: Trade mark protection is key!

Ramon Zenhäusern, Bernard Volken & Sibilla Delorenzi

Sponsoring and merchandising are essential for sports. For sponsors, trade mark monopolies are a condition for investment. The stronger the scope of protection of a trade mark and its reputation, the more sponsors invest and the more turnover the merchandising generates. Given all of this, it is not surprising that highly reputed sports clubs as well as top athletes recognise the importance of their trade marks. This session will show how and why sports clubs and athletes protect their brands. Olympic gold and silver medallist and world champion Ramon Zenhäusern will share his thoughts and experience and explain how he protected his trade marks.

The teaching of the case study can be applied to any technology as we address the most common questions and problems which startups face and provide advice on what steps startups should to take. We generalize the teaching of the case study so that the audience can more easily apply the presented advice to their own field of technology. Lastly we demonstrate how we can apply the teaching to the field of chemical compounds.

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to fundamentally change science, business and society. The development of reliable applications of AI also strengthens Switzerland as a place for innovation and entrepreneurship. Often however, students and researchers miss the opportunity of discovering their entrepreneurial side, while start-ups provide one of the most exciting learning curves for personality development, gaining hands-on experience for turning ideas into products, and working with other highly talented people.

We are therefore excited to announce our panel discussion “Connecting AI Research & Entrepreneurship”, where you can join the founders of the innovative startups DeepJudge, EthonAI and Robin from the ETH AI Center, as they share their own experience and give personal insights and tips to researchers and future entrepreneurs in the AI field.

Commercial Pricing Director, UiPath

UiPath, a leading enterprise automation software company, is one of Europe’s biggest tech success stories. Created in 2015 on the foundation of a 10-year old software outsourcing company started by Daniel Dines and Marius Tirca in Bucharest, it got listed on the New York Stock Exchange in April 2021. Yet, that doesn’t even say half the story. As any start-up, UiPath struggled to achieve market fit, and did not have your typical journey to growth. Still, a few short years, UiPath created a global ecosystem of business and technology partners, has more than 9,000 customers and stands at the center of one of the biggest software automation communities worldwide.

Learn in this inspirational keynote how a successful startup thinks and acts, how local ecosystems fuel your growth and how to take in all of the success and challenges and successfully scale up.

Patrick Griss, JP Vuilleumier, Lukas Julen, Willemien van den Toorn, Madiha Derouazi & Dany Bermejo

We’ve been part of the startup ecosystem for more than 20 years, we’ve learned our lessons by doing. Turns out, there are mission critical topics most founders struggle with, independent of business sectors.

We discuss these topics, show that connected nature of the struggle and share our experience of how they can be approached.

What is the take-away for entrepreneurs? We trigger impulses for how to become more effective and efficient. We hope to connect the dots.

What makes or brakes the scaling of a startup out of one counry?
Traps and pitfalls, opportunities and chances – what can you learn from others that have done it succesfully?

Listen to three startups explain their journey. A startup from Switzerland, one from Italy and one from Germany. Three different markets, three different strategies – or are they really that different?
What would they have done differently, what do they advise to do? And is there a blue print to follow?

Steward Ownership: The 21st century approach to restructure ownership?

Bettina Hirsig, Tobias Joos, Raphael Reber, Thierry Kneissler & Vera Herzmann

We generally believe that social entrepreneurs start their business to «change the world». While we want to make a difference, we often lean to either a pragmatic solution or are pushed towards classical exit-driven business and ownership models by our need for venture capital.

What new forms are still unexplored that address the multiple needs we are facing in the 21st century? How might we find structures that allow value-maximization for all stakeholders?

It’s time to start a dialogue to explore the emerging topic of steward ownership in Switzerland. Are you in?

„If I could be an investor, what would I do differently?“ That’s a question that kept our panelists busy as successful founders until they became investors themselves.

Join this inspirational panel to hear what these investors are implementing today, and how badly they wish they’d benefited from these measures way back when.

They can’t turn back the clock! But they can help the next generation of entrepreneurs to thrive by giving offering investment and mentorship.

How unconscious gender bias affects women in business

Pirmin Meyer, Patrizia Laeri, Johanna Seeliger, Nadine Jürgensen, Elena Wenger & Annalou Prader

As we know, gender bias is the tendency to prefer a gender over another
bases on our beliefs and experiences. According to an UN Report almost 90%
of men and women hold some sort of bias against females.
In this panel we want to raise awareness and shed light on its effects on
women in business. To look at the topic hilistically, it is important for us to
have representatives from diverse areas and sectors within the business
world.
Possible topics discussed (not conclusive)

  • how gender bias effects startup funding
  • how gender bias results in a gender pay gap and finances
